A historical summary notes December's severe cold across years with record lows and heavy snowfall. It cites 1592 as the coldest December on record with 4.7 degrees below normal, 1887 at 2.0 degrees, and 1857 and 1892 notable for scant snow yet deep freezes and explosive snowfall respectively, along with a spell beginning December 4 and lingering to month end.
The Atchison Globe reports a severe winter with January 1385 the coldest on record after a frigid December. A mercury reading hit 20 below on the 15th, February warmer than March, and the last killing frost dated March 26 signaling an unusually early spring following a record December.
Goodland citizens and businessmen gathered at the Purvis place to inspect a new flying machine claimed to be fully practical and unique. The craft can ascend or descend vertically, stop at will, and steer in any direction powered by two engines. A stock company was formed with $80,000 capital to develop airships under the inventors plan.
Miss Eva Philbrook and Mr William H Jones of this city wed on New Year’s Day in Salina Kansas. Miss Philbrook, a noted primary teacher in Wa Keeney, joins Mr Jones who has run the local insurance business from WeKeney. The World and many friends extend congratulations and best wishes.
Mr Oscar J Guilbert and Miss Mae Purinton wed December 29 at the bride’s parents home near Banner. Families long friendly with Damon and Pythias kinship. A December 31 reception hosted by Jennie A Guilbert and Walter D Guilbert followed. They now reside on a farm 14 miles southwest of Wa Keeney in Trego county.
A Radium entertainment featuring Wireless Telegraphy Liquid Air and Radium will appear under Trego County High School auspices at a Wa Keeney hall Saturday evening January 22 1910. Promoted as a wonderful instructive demonstration by Mr Patty a skilled operator crowds are promised clear explanations of these topics. Tickets and circulars circulated for the event.

Mrs Louise Feeney aged 90 years and 7 months died December 29 1909 after a long life in Boyle Ireland born, married to John Feeney in 1836, came to America in 1846. Survived by five children, lived in Colorado, cared for by Jol Feeney and Mrs Beardwell, joined Roman Catholic church, known for visiting the sick and poor. Funeral at Presbyterian church conducted by Rev Allison, community offers sympathy.
Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for help during illness and burial of a mother with blessings requested for helpers. A Wa-Keeney Baptist association missionary announces preaching duties, revival meetings at the Baptist church, and appeals for prayers and cooperation. Government thermometer readings for Wa Keeney cover the week ending Wednesday noon with temperatures from 22 to below zero. Winter remains severe with a record cold spell in December 1909 and a monthly average near 20 degrees above zero for the area. The 1909 rainfall total set records, while January 1905 showed high and low extremes. Local notes mention butter fat price at thirty three cents and a medical ointment claim. A school pond accident left Rosie Parks briefly unconscious but not seriously injured. a physician was summoned and she is expected to recover. Also local vendors promote A Booth sealshipt oysters at Baker’s for 50 cents.
