Trial Trip of New Fire Wagons Delights Wenatchee
Last night the city heard the trial run of the W F D No 1 a combined chemical and hose cart. Jack O Connor commanded the team as it toured Wenatchee with the alarm bell clanging and volunteers clinging to the wagon. The machine is housed at O Connor s barn on Mission street awaiting city purchase of a team. The plan keeps the old hand cart at Mission street the other hose wagon near the reservoir on Orondo and the chemical engine on Nob Hill. With the new pumping service from the Columbia River in a few weeks plus additional hydrants Wenatchee will gain improved fire protection. The city has seen no major fires in a decade reflecting the volunteer department s effectiveness and a touch of good fortune.

Vancouver man defies police after jail escape
L. D. Seal, a well known Vancouver resident, secured drinks from unknown sources and sparked a two hour standoff after escaping from the city jail. He returned home armed with two revolvers and a shotgun, defying four officers until friends and church pastors persuaded him to surrender. He was jailed overnight and later released on bond.
