Seventeen Days on Road From St Paul to Everett

Reports from Everett detail Great Northern overland service resuming after a cascade tunnel blockade. Section 1 arrived after seventeen days from St Paul with mail cars loaded to the roofs and many passengers, while Section 2 joined soon after. Freight and passenger traffic revive as winter slides ease, with line from St Paul to the Sound now open and ice breaking on the Columbia River.

Ugly charges arise over Larchmont Knowlton collision

Distracted survivors and relatives accuse Captain Haley of Knowlton of prioritizing his vessel over Larchmont's passengers. Captain McVey of the Larchmont allegedly took the last boat for himself, leaving others crowded. Twenty known survivors reported, with death toll expected near 181. Mrs Harris Feldman and Miss Sadie Galup are noted survivors. The Kentucky carries 19 survivors to Providence hospitals.

Five Delegates Sought for Highway Congress in Pittsburg

Governor Mead is asked by Governor Stuart of Pennsylvania to appoint five delegates to attend the National Congress of State Highway Commissioners and related highway construction officials at Pittsburg on March 12 and 13, 1907, in connection with the American Roadmakers association annual convention.

Freezes Feet on N P Train: Mary Zugwert Amputations Expected

In Seattle on February 13 Mary Zugwert a 16 year old from Stony Point Minnesota and her fiancé Samuel Koodh 30 were found to have frozen feet after a Northern Pacific train tie up near Fargo. One foot will be amputated and the other may also be sacrificed to save her life. The couple were to marry today but the ceremony is postponed until after the operation. Koodh plans to prosecute the railroad for injury and false imprisonment.

London reports Oscar Lewissohn, about 25, Harvard graduate and traveler, to marry actress Edna May after a year of courting. He is the brother of Esse Lewissohn.

Apples Exports Net $2.38 Per Box From Rogue River Valley

Fred H Hopkins of Medford reports his first carload of yellow Newtown apples sold in London for net $2.38 per 50 pound box fob Central Point. Other local shippers show above $2 per box. valley growers increasingly enter foreign markets, with Rogue River leading the London Newtown trade.

Hill May Build New Transcontinental Road

Chicago Feb 13 Should J J Hill fail to raise Great Northern capital to double track the whole line he may form a new company and construct another transcontinental railroad This costly plan would bypass the current road but aligns with Hill’s practice of prioritizing project goals over expense The initial route would run from St Paul to western North Dakota to ease Great Northern congestion.

Polygamy Dying Out in Utah Says Knox

Pennsylvania Senator Knox delivered a forceful speech opposing Reed Smoot's expulsion from the Senate. He argued polygamy is dying out and questioned applying church history to bar a member from federal office. He warned expulsion would require a two thirds vote and tied it to oath and honor.
