The last steel span was placed on the Wenatchee bridge over the Columbia, marking the first wagon bridge across the river. The structure showcases Wenatchee's enterprise and will stand as a historic achievement for the city and its citizens. The main span exceeds 600 feet between piers as Bridgeport and other towns may build future bridges.
Wilson Creek December 28 Conductor BE W Merwin was struck by a switch train in the Great Northern yards at 1 30 pm on his way to verify train orders. Five ribs on his left side were broken he was internally injured and suffered other injuries.
In a Spokane yard two trains operated as a worker became confused and halted before a moving engine. The injured individual was moved to Sacred Heart hospital for treatment tonight.
Sheriff Webb received news of a murder at Adrian last night. A Waterville phone message said the killer headed west on a freight train. Leavenworth deputy notified. No details available at press time. Miss Katherine Miller and her mother plan a two to three month visit to Pennsylvania.
Spokane banks resume cash basis for ordinary business. Since Monday all checks up to 50 dollars are paid in cash, while checks from 50 to 100 dollars are partially paid in cash or more if requested. Most checks fall under 50 dollars and clearing house checks are nearly retired. Secrecy has been maintained as the change continues.
Portland editors are asked to find a source of silica sand meeting Columbia Steel Works standards. The Oregon Development League offers $100 to any reader or Oregon region resident who uncovers land delivering silica sand 98 percent pure and oxide free, available at Portland for up to six dollars per ton, with $100 paid to the discoverer each month.
G A Schenkowitz of Dubuque Iowa plans to move to Washington state after years in the Dubuque drug trade. He cites President Roosevelt's prediction that Washington would become a state and says the president was right in this as in other things. He travels toward the Big Bend area to inspect lands along the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul route.
Trinidad Washington December 28 reports that passenger and freighting service on the river are slowed by the temporary layoff of the steamer St Paul. Last Tuesday she passed the point en route to Crab Creek bridge carrying mail and passengers, about 20 miles this side of Frenchman rapids.
Miss Aurelia Keane is convalescing at home on Douglas Street after a three week illness with relatives and neighbors noting her gradual improvement and rest at her residence.
