County Health Officer Gilchrist refutes a Cashmere Record and Leavenworth Echo item claiming smallpox is spreading at Monitor and Wenatchee. He states only three Monitor cases this year, all convalescent and quarantined, and no local Wenatchee contagion in two weeks.
Max Bass, immigration agent for the Great Northern railroad with headquarters in St. Paul, plans a house on his fruit land at east Wenatchee. The Wenatchee W C T U met at Mrs. A D Fisher’s on Chelan Street with Mrs. Carden of Bellingham present. A fire department event date error was corrected from January 14 to February 14. Ellsworth Hallenbeck returns from Skykomis after six months with Skykomish Lumber Co to spend winter in Wenatchee.
Mrs. Hazel Lee of Wenatchee died in poverty at Seattle’s Wayside Hospital after arriving with her infant daughter. The Seattle Times report and hospital superintendent Catherine Major describe abandonment by her husband and father, who refused aid. Washington Card Society cares for the two children pending legal action for abandonment.
The senior class of the high school, sixteen members strong, gathered last night at the home of Mr and Mrs G W Coburn with Edith and Edna Milner as hostesses. Attending were Zelma Reeves Anna Sumner Stella Zwight Edith Milner Edna Milner Mildred Finch Sylva Grant Colton Lyman Shotwell Ralph Shotwell Boyd French Fred Ellis Thayer Littlefield Clifford Knowles and Mr Harvey of Pullman College.
The Daily World will run a weeklong straw vote from December 30 to January 4 inviting all voters in Chelan and Douglas counties to choose a presidential successor to Roosevelt. Ballots appear in every Daily World and Weekly Advance, may be mailed or delivered to carriers, and the paper will not name candidates.
Dallas Baker once city marshal and now resident of Oklahoma visits with his brother Charles and Frank Bass. The three men, former acquaintances of A. J. Linville of Red Apple Real Estate Company, weigh settling here permanently while browsing local art supplies at H. W. Russell's.
