Kindergarten Improvement Grant for WISD
WISD received a $49 000 Texas Education Agency facility improvement grant to fund four projects. Central heating and cooling units will be installed in Pre K and Kindergarten rooms, restrooms remodeled, lighting upgraded, and new classroom furnishings bought. All work must finish by August 31 2000.

80 000 Acres Added to NRP Boll Weevil Zone
The Texas Department of Agriculture reports two referendums approving transfer of about 80 000 acres to the Northern Rolling Plains Boll Weevil Eradication Zone. Voters in Briscoe Motley and Garza Crosby Dickens Floyd Kent counties backed the move to align with similar geography and growing conditions. County Commissioners Discuss Off System Bridge Program and Sheriff Rules
Collingsworth County Court met Monday June 12 with TxDot area engineer Darwin Langford outlining an Off System Bridge Program due in September. The program waives the usual 10 percent bridge fee allowing funds to repair another bridge while Sheriff Lee notes five inmates in jail and raises concerns about Texas Commission on Law Enforcement rule revisions potentially requiring college credits for peace officer licensure starting January 2002 rising to 60 hours by 2006 and 2010.
