First annual Wellington homecoming honors local black history
The Wellington black community held its first homecoming weekend at Burn Handley center with a 6 p.m fish fry and 8 p.m talent show. Organizer Charlie Taylor led the effort with Clara Brown coordinating publicity. A community service award went to Peggie McKinnon. The event moves forward with a 1994 barbecue picnic at B.T. Washington Park, a dance, and Sunday church service led by Rev. W B Simon.
