Memorial Day Observance at Courthouse Square

Memorial Day 1994 observance at the Veterans Monument on Courthouse Square began at 11:00 A.M. with Commander Robert Bartenbruch leading the program. Glynn Moore Post 6439 VFW members and auxiliary placed a flag and wreaths. Army National Guard provided a color guard.

Museum buys air conditioner for Art Center and July 4 celebration

The museum board met May 30 to approve purchasing a new air conditioner from R&R Electric for about $1,300 to replace one damaged in a storm. The museum will host a July 4 fireworks event at Pioneer Park with chili dogs and pop for sale to support ongoing expenses. Proceeds aid museum costs.

Three locals injured in pickup crash near Wellington

At 3:45 AM on May 30 a single vehicle crash on FM 338 eight miles east of Wellington left driver Leslie Hammons Smith and two passengers Evelyn and Sasha Raines injured. All were treated at Collingsworth General Hospital with additional transfers to Northwest Texas and Altus Oklahoma. Traffic safety notes followed, citing 24 Texas deaths over Memorial Day weekend and urging belt use.

Immunization Clinic Planned in Wellington

The Texas Department of Health schedules an immunization clinic in Wellington on Wednesday, June 15. It will run from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 1 at Collingsworth County Courthouse. Fees will be income based to cover clinic costs.

Four generations graduate from Wellington High School

The May 27 1994 Wellington High School graduation marked the fourth generation of the same Wellington family to graduate from WHS. Family matriarch Ruby Curtner Ball, 99, is a 1912 alumna, followed by Evelyn Ball King (1941), Marcia King Cox (1971), and Andrea Cox (1994) who all attended the ceremony.

Summer Activities Kick Off In Wellington

Wellington ushers in summer with youth baseball at the airport field and T ball for kids. Girls softball and adult leagues thrive while the city pool awaits a tentative June 13 opening. The Collingsworth Public Library plans a reading program from June 8 to July 20 with prizes and readings.
