Grants Expand High Plains Food Bank Reach in Panhandle
The High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo received 90000 dollars from the Brumley Foundation to fund a facility expansion adding more freezer and cooler capacity and a larger warehouse. A 20000 dollar grant from the Payne Foundation recognizes service into the Pampa area. In 1999 the food bank delivered 3560000 pounds statewide with 1150000 pounds sent to 13 towns across 27 counties. The expansion aims to increase distribution of fresh vegetables, frozen and perishable foods to rural Panhandle communities served by 89 area nonprofits and churches.
