Reconnaissance reports indicate Boer forces in Africa are mounting effective assaults on British units. Communications remain strained as both sides sustain skirmishes and tactical moves around strategic positions.
London dispatches describe battles near Utrecht and Elands River port with British losses totaling officers and men and Boer successes. Reports cite mediation talks among the czar and European powers, and Kitchener and French actions amid rising Boer strength in Cape Colony and Natal as the war extends.
A dispute between the railroad company and Hornet Creek farmers remains unresolved as talks fail to yield a settlement. No details on proposed terms or next meeting were provided in the readable text.
Judge Stewart appoints Wm Allison Frank Potter and Mose Neal as appraisers of damages for the Pacific and Idaho Northern Railway Company and Hornet Creek ranchers. A pipe organ is hoped for soon after completion, with a vigorous committee led by Alder man Ryan and others guiding the project.
