On the 4th nearly a foot of snow fell at La Crosse Wisconsin and in rural areas drifts reached ten to twelve feet high. City crews battled accumulation as schools and businesses paused under heavy whiteout conditions.

In Madison county circuit court Adolph Loehrmann and Peter Hartmann were found guilty of manslaughter in the saloon row killing of Henry Smith last summer. Cole Younger survivor of the Younger brothers was pardoned by Minnesota state board of pardons on condition he not exhibit himself and must leave Minnesota never to return voluntarily. The 1876 Northfield bank robbery and murder connection was cited in the pardon.
Fire broke out at 10 45 in Bred Rohbitch carriage and paint shop six miles south of St Louis in Luxembourg. By 1 30 p m the blaze was still unchecked with a high wind driving flames through the wealthy suburb.
