On the 29th in senate Mr Mc Laurin urged action to obtain evidence in court martial cases in the Philippines and weed out abusive officers. Lodge and Bard opposed the statehood bill. Foraker and Clay argued over Quay's tactic to tack statehood onto an appropriation bill. House passed Indian appropriation and opened post office bill. Burton attacked Indian spending with little effect. Patterson spoke on trusts. Reid on good roads. Memorial by Gen. Wilson asks removing Red Cross from single-person control. Roosevelt told Gov. Nash he would miss Ohio centennial. Kansas proposed restricting black and alien voting. Helsicher sentenced for attacking anarchist de Cleyre. Gillen and Grisman killed by train.
