A syndicate of eastern capitalists has arranged to consolidate Springfield public utilities. They secured options on the gas plant, the Consolidated City Railway Co., the Springfield Electric Light Heat and Power Co., and the new Springfield Hot Water Heating Co. E T Halsey of Louisville led the negotiations in Philadelphia. The new firm will issue 3 million dollars of 5 percent bonds and 3 million dollars of stock, with over a million dollars earmarked for improvements to the plants under control.
In Springfield federal court, the Anna Gerstel bankruptcy case in East St. Louis unfolds with a writ of replevin by trustee L. E. Shaffer against buyer John Ellman to recover stock for creditors. She had internal injuries from a streetcar crash months earlier. Capt Streeter is jailed awaiting transfer to Joliet penitentiary after a murder sentence.
