About 300 owner operator truck drivers in the area voted to accept a new proposal ending a two month strike. Canton spokesman said drivers were unhappy with a 13.70 per hour rate after four hour waits at steel mills but the owner operators wanted to return to work. A Wintersville state patrolman reported a trucking shot incident near Hopedale and Route 151. the truck was struck by steel, no suspects located or weapon determined.

John Sherer 20 of Dover was found guilty of shooting across a public highway by a common pleas court jury on Friday. Judge J H Lamneck fined him 50 dollars and suspended a 30 day jail term, plus costs over 100 dollars. Jury deliberated about 45 minutes after hearing testimony all day. The May 23 incident near John Fowler Residence RD 1 Mineral sent Sherer indicted by the September grand jury for shooting with intent to maim or kill.
