In Nashville on Aug 8 1967 a director of the Liberatio n School told Senate investigators the antipoverty program funds for the school can be kept by the federal government. Brooks 20 a Detroit Negro and SNCC coordinator said the school teaches hatred of whites calling for its end and even killing. Federal funds were delayed pending security checks and the school operates in St Anselm's chapel as a summer project of Metropolitan Action Commission.

Ohio Shooting Is Unexplained
In Napoleon Ohio a 17 year old girl Denise Fortner was shot in the stomach while riding a small motorcycle on Ohio 199 south of Napoleon. The car that passed her fired a bullet and fled the scene. She was found lying on the road by Don Tawney a feed salesman who alerted authorities and she was hospitalized in Defiance. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office reported there is no explanation for the shooting.

Two men are held in a New Philadelphia city jail awaiting arraignment before Mayor Joseph Pritz. William McCreary, 47, of 142 3rd St. SE, is charged with petit larceny after allegedly stealing a 14 horsepower motor from his brother Charles McCreary of 1037 W. High Ave. Renner, 45, of North Ridgeville, is held on charges of driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. His license was revoked until June 1970 after reckless operation. An intoxication test showed .025 percent alcohol in his blood.

Five Die After YMCA Trip Truck Crash in California
A flatbed truck carrying YMCA summer club participants overturned on the Nimitz Freeway in Fremont, California. Four youths and a YMCA worker died. About 30 others were hospitalized, with one in critical condition. The Berkeley YMCA had rented the truck for a trip with 62 youngsters and eight staff members to Santa Cruz.
