Birthday Surprise Honors Mrs A J Monroe in Home Celebration

Mrs A J Monroe was surprised at her home Monday evening in a party organized by her husband and friends. About thirty five guests attended as a new stove was installed, ice cream and cake enjoyed, and Mrs Monroe celebrated turning forty seven with her neighbors and kin.

Old Charley Birdcell Buried After Long Life With Family

Old Charley Birdcell the aged family horse died Sunday after a brief illness. He was over thirty years old and had served the Birdcell family since birth. J M Birdcell cared for him after his father’s death, using him for many buggy rides with John and his best girl. A grave was prepared Monday in the John Biddle woods north of town with straw bedding for the burial.

Geo W Paul, a former Crawfordsville attorney now in Indianapolis, wrote to J S Zuck seeking a new location. He plans to visit Waynetown to consider permanent settlement, saying he is past seventy and wants a growing small city to spend his remaining days.

Smallpox Case Reported in Local Family

Howard Swearingen, grandson of Uncle Frank Swearingen, is ill with smallpox at William Swearingen's home near Alamo. The illness is defined but not serious, with precautions in place to stop spread as several people were exposed early before the disease was identified.
