Civil War veteran Job Westfall aged 63 died at his New Richmond home after a long heart condition. He lived in Indiana, married Mary J. Francis in 1869, and survived by four children, siblings, and a large extended family. Funeral at 2:00 pm with interment in Wesley cemetery.
Sarah Gray, born near Wes ley, never married and cared for her father and brothers Joe and George. She joined Phanuel Evangel ic Lutheran church on May 14 1876 and lived a life of service before passing away at home on April 23 1922.
Old Waynetown native Bud Ban yan nicknamed Bud has spent 24 years with Pacific Cold Storage and successors in the North. He leaves Dawson Yukon Territory for Mayo as company representative and will later work in Seattle under the home office, continuing with the firm in a more responsible role.
Ingersoll Chapel observes Mother’s Day with a short program next Sunday. A full devotional service includes songs such as America and Jesus Paid It All, scripture readings, prayers, a sermon by Rev. E. E. Kuhn, and a dismissal led by Mr. and Mrs. Will Lunnell and Mrs. Al Webster. Also noted are activities from the Sunday school and chorus with various soloists and readings. Mr. and Mrs. Will Lunnell and Mrs. Al Webster visited Miss Mary Haas in Newtown after she suffered a stroke and has been confined to bed for two months.
The old town opens a summer season of street pictures on Saturdays and Wednesdays starting tomorrow evening, March 18. Three reels Snookies fresh Heir Rainmakers and Kinograms will be shown at about 8:00 PM, promising rib tickling and social time through the warm months.
The Crawfordsville Girls Club judging teams traveled to Purdue University arriving at Ladies Hall at 10:00 a.m. The garment judging winner was Scott County. bread judging went to Montgomery County with Elizabeth Byrd Beulah Reiter Pauline West. Lectures and band concert followed with camp explorations and a moving picture in Fowler Hall. Mrs Etta Guilliams and Mary E Beazell accompanied as chaperones.
The Waynetown Boy Scouts met in the M E church basement to organize a Scout Troupe for ages twelve to eighteen. Rev Clearwaters leads the movement with prior Scoutmaster experience. The next meeting is Saturday May 18 at 7 30 p m in the church basement. All boys are urged to attend.
Next Sunday May 14 Mothers Day services guided by the theme of motherhood. All mothers in Sunday School will receive flowers. Morning sermon titled The Crowning Gift of God in Creation Mother. Evening sermon topic Some Bible Mothers.
The Order of Eastern Star Chapter 435 calls a stated meeting for next Tuesday evening May 16. Officers Fanny Schlosser W M and Lata Darnell secretary announce the gathering.
Fern J. Birdcell and Miss Leah Hudson, popular Waynetown residents, wed last Saturday afternoon in Crawfordsville after securing a marriage license. The bride, a former primary teacher, and the groom, assistant cashier at the Farmers and Merchants Bank, plan a honeymoon then will settle back in Waynetown. They have many friends who offer congratulations and best wishes.
The Baptist Young People’s Union will present the three act royalty play For the Love of Johnny by Harry Hamilton at the school auditorium on Friday evening May 19. Proceeds fund a National B Y P U Convention delegate. Reserved seats 25 cents. On Mother's Day May 14 Snyders Chapel U B Church schedules Sunday School at 9 30 a m and preaching at 10 30 a m with the sermon Behold Thy Mother Read St John 19 27 An evening service at 6 30 p m features a 7 30 p m sermon titled Three Phases of Sin Its Fact Its Stability and Its Grip Church attendees are urged to honor mothers and show respect to all mothers and boys and girls alike.
Paul Harvey, who recently finished school work at Bowers, showed he can work beyond teaching by planning and operating a corn planting with the old check row planter. The device clicked all day, marking the first planting effort in the community this year.
A Kansas City area note recalls a traveler at Law rence Union Pacific station who found meaning in Mother’s Day. He plans to honor his mother with red carnations and the writer urges all to attend church next Sunday to lift a mother’s burden by living a Christian life and seeking Christ. The message from Pastor Wm. H. Zimmerman emphasizes maternal sacrifice and spiritual guidance.
The Ladies Aid society of the local Methodist church held an all day meeting at Rev and Mrs. Clearwater's Hillsboro home. A covered dish luncheon nourished the gathering as Mrs. Macy presented a paper titled Women of the Ages and Rev. Clearwater gave each guest a fern keepsake a souvenir of the day.
George N. Mannfield of the state conservation department warns that catching small mouth and large mouth bass or bluegills during the closed season carries a fine of 10 to 50 dollars plus up to ten days in jail. The ban runs May 1 to June 15 to protect spawning and natural reproduction. Other fish are not restricted by this law.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Utterback hosted five miles east of town with family members Chas E Correll Danville Ill H G Petro Gertrude Petro Elmerta Petro Crawfordsville and Carlton Swank. Afternoon guests included J Howard Mina Moss Leonard Estes Smith and Walter Trenary all of Danville Ill.
Moses Stewart aged 84 years 2 months and 1 day died after a prolonged illness at the home of his daughter Mrs. George Bowman near town. He leaves three sons, four daughters, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. Cornelius Airhart with interment in Ladoga. Born March 8, 1838 in Indiana he married Martha Davidson in 1861 and farmed until her death thirty-eight years ago. He joined the Methodist church in youth and remained a faithful member.
Snyder’s Chapel Sunday School class The Buds of Promise entertained at the home of Mrs Edna Rusk for a backward social with opposite customs. Miss Blanche Rusk won the backward spelling contest. Guests praised the hosts and departed late, pleased with the pleasant evening.
Dick Kline from Crawfordsville visited Wednesday evening to see the street pictures but found none. He left reservations at the R. A. Kline Inn on East Main Street and will return Saturday for the evening pictures and a night at the famous venue.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Cone came home Tuesday evening after months in the West visiting daughters Mrs. Inez Rivers and Mrs. Aurelia Wilde in Casper Wyoming and viewing many sights of the great northwest.
Very sick woman Mrs. Sallie Hendricks who came home from a winter in Hot Spring Arkansas and a Nebraska visit is ill at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. C. Westfall.
