Local notices recount hospitalizations deaths wares and civic updates in Wooster area. Prof J O Noerstein travels to Colorado for business while Wooster University elects John M Chambars as Oratory professor. Fire devastates a house in Olivesburg and a gas well near Wooster is abandoned. Public notices cover elections deputies pay and court rulings.
Jon Hammer, a Wayne carpenter, was injured in a hunting accident near Sheriff McCoy farm while returning home with a clock. He tripped on timber, fell, and lost sight in his left eye. Doctors concluded the right eye may still be saved.
Q Gelsinger A O Geisinger formerly of Smithville and Orrville died suddenly of apoplexy at Toronto Qan on Wednesday Sept 6. He was the father of the Gelsinger family noted for providing music for the Smithville camping gathering.
A Wooster bride Mary Scudder Meeker wed Rev. Thomas F. Barrier at 8 p.m. in the home of her parents 128 Fort Wayne Ave before about 40 friends. The bride, Wooster University graduate, taught at Scotia N O. The groom, Wooster alumnus, is a rising Presbyterian minister. After a brief reception the couple left for Wichita Kan aboard the 10:26 train. Also note Warne Go Fair tickets sold by teachers or at the fair Office for Sept 20 27 28.
A barn belonging to Mr. Graber near Marshallville was struck by lightning and burned, destroying the threshing outfit. The Dalton area mourns the death of Arnold Oheyney’s three year old son after a mule incident. Local church society committees and ME Sunday School officers are listed for upcoming activities. Dalton school enrollment totals 141 with 26 high, 42 grammar, 33 intermediate, and 40 primary students. Albert Musser owes $2 plus costs for assault alleged over a nude snap-shot. Wayne County Court convened in Wooster with judges Adams, Dodge, and Voorhees. several cases listed on the docket.
Court records show guardianship and administration orders for several estates, including Henry Seohrist as guardian and A P Moser as administrator. Real estate transfers listed include warranty deeds, quitclaims, and administrator’s deeds detailing parcels in Milton, Chippewa, Clinton, Doyle, Mount Eaton, Sugar Creek, and other townships with prices or considerations noted.
The Wayne County board completed reviewing claims for livestock killed by dogs. Numerous residents from Wayne, Chippewa, Congress, Milton, Palot, Salt Creek and other townships reported sheep and lamb losses with varying amounts allowed. An agricultural exhibit was encouraged with farmers urged to bring products to Wayne County Fair on September 25 to 27.
A Thursday afternoon storm drenched the community with the heaviest rainfall in years, flooding cellars, snapping shade trees, and wrecking barns and windmills. Lightning struck multiple buildings including Dr J H Stoll’s residence, causing minor damage. several farmers reported torn doors, broken windows, and collapsed barns. The sewer backed into the city jail, while a fatal lightning strike killed a man and his son near Lattasburg, with their barn and contents destroyed.
Wa Ball, a Springville blacksmith, loses his barn and contents to a Thursday lightning fire. He had carried 1400 dollars in advance to the Onto Farmer on toy building and contents. Mr Ballway of Philadelphia was at the GAR encampment when the loss happened.
