Orrville Schools Open As County Courts Start

Orrville schools open Monday while circuit court begins next Tuesday. The Public schools report good attendance after the first week and various local notes mention education funding, postmaster appointments, weather, and community events around Wayne County. The letter from a citizen argues for employment of free labor over convict labor and warns against the social dangers of unemployment and crime.

Children’s Day Observed at English Reformed Church

The Reformed Church in the United States sets apart the first Sunday in September as Children’s Day. Sept. 6th services at the English Reformed Church of Wooster will be morning and evening largely by children. The church will be decorated with vines fruits and flowers and all are invited.

City man builds odd steam whistle monster scream

Charley Barrett of this city invented a steam whistle that combines a locomotive shriek a tug horn and a cal liope. On its first test Tuesday crowds filled the streets peering anxiously and asking if strange animals had escaped from Holmes county hills as the device blasted and startled onlookers.
