Stark County teachers form a union and will demand higher wages. The news item lists other local notes including arrests, farm sales, and misfortunes such as a man’s suicide in Mansfield and a hydrophobic dog bite in Madisonburg.
The glass plant advances rapidly with fires expected around December 15. Blowing work will start later with most workers already engaged. some come from Massillon and others from New Jersey. The first half of the subscription funds has been raised and the board of trade calls for prompt flat payments.
Edward Cusack aged 87 died suddenly Monday at the county infirmary where he, his wife and daughter resided for years. Born in Ireland he lived in Wayne county about 60 years and worked as a watchman at the Pennsylvania depot until retirement. Funeral services were held at St Marys Catholic church and he was buried in the Catholic cemetery.
Mrs Helen Wilson aged 75 died at her home on South Buckeye Sunday morning November 16 She was widow of Josh us Wilson a former sheriff daughter of Squire John Hughes born in Franklin tno and lived in Wayne county She is survived by four children Mrs Addie Johnson of Caton Solon Oren and Mrs Edith Barcus all of this city and 18 grandchildren Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon Interment in Wooster cemetery
Martin Roberts Jr and Walter Leighty of the fifth ward were arrested on charges tied to illegal tree activities Friday. Willaman farm tenant W Lemon southeast of Wooster faced hunting without permission. Irvin McClarran, city east resident, charged trespassing and gunfire at cattle, after discharging his shotgun to deter youths. Leighty and Roberts pleaded guilty to charges and were fined ten dollars plus costs, a penalty later remitted by Mayor Smith due to poverty.
The State Anti-Saloon League calls a three day Temperance Congress in Columbus December 1 3 uniting Ohio forces. Speakers include Dr Levi Gilbert Rev George R Stewart Dr Luther B Wilson Dr Washington Gladden President Hunt and other leaders. Each church society and temperance group may send delegates with half fare rail travel in Ohio tickets valid December 1 2 to December 5.
Lehman of Wayne two took office as county commissioner on Tuesday, replacing Warren Ramsey of Orrville who was appointed to fill the vacancy after the death of his father John Ramsey.
City council held a busy session Monday approving gas franchise and railway ordinances. A contract was let for a small culvert near the old paper mill for 179 dollars, and a franchise to extend the West Liberty Street line was approved with broad support. A districting committee was named for the municipal code, while bills on street and sewer improvements and a $3334.25 claim against the C and Electric Railway were discussed.
Daniel Cotterman of near Honeytown suffered heavy loss Wednesday afternoon when his barn burned with all contents. The origin is unknown but hunters nearby may have left a burning cigar or match. Contents included hay, farm machinery, 200 bushels oats and 200 bushels wheat. Estimated loss about 1200 dollars with some insurance. The family was away at the time.

Wooster Sand and Stone company builds a four story frame plant three miles south of town on Z T Duer lands to house stone crushing machinery for supplying a new Baume glass factory. Quarry operations, steam boilers, engine and equipment installed. switch from CA and C line completed. 80 workers expected once completed. large stone supply supports future growth.
Canaan reports include Miss Clara Gepford of West Salem visiting schools and giving talks, Miss Ida Alleman of Shreve and Ella Alleman of Springville being entertained at Mrs. Scott’s Sabbath, Miss Minnie Zaver returning from Cleveland, and the wedding of Miss Lula Oller to Edward Eberhart at the bride’s home on Thursday. Mrs. Helm returns from Ashland while Mrs. Van Doorn and Carrie Keeney of Creston visit. The pie social was a success and several locals are noted ill or traveling visiting friends.
J P Blough and family plan to leave around December 1 for Colorado to reside permanently owing to ill health. Wm Unger and sons bought the Blough residence on EB North for 2000 dollars. Mr Blough's interest in Rich & Blough hardware was purchased by Alvin J Rich. The Bloughs will be missed in Wooster social and church circles after seven years here.
Fire in a Saturday morning blaze on the corner of North and Buckeye streets destroyed the Ira Drexco coach and transfer barn. Eight tons of hay two tons of fodder and a ton of bran were lost. Drexco faced about 1000 in losses with 2000 insured. Firestone property nearby sustained minor damage.
