Apple Crop Prospects and Regional Variations Across States

Dr Elder notes the U.S. apple crop this year ranges from 8 to 10 million barrels with about a third unsuited for shipment. Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Arkansas lead heavy crops while Southern Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia report short yields. The East sees better fruit quality than average, but much will waste due to limited staying qualities and high coal costs affecting evaporation. Foreign demand remains strong as Liverpool prices may drop. roughly 200000 barrels were shipped to Liverpool from New York last week and Canada plans export with some fruit staying in the U.S. due to duties.
