The Loudonville German Lutheran congregation dedicated their new church costing 16000 last Sunday. Other notes report local deaths births and civic updates including a new Pennsylvania Lines time card effective May 25 and school board actions in Wooster and Dalton.
The May 1902 Mount Pelée eruption on Martinique devastated St Pierre after May 8 as lava flowed from Mt Pelee and violent earthquakes struck the region. Estimates place the death toll around 40 000 across St Pierre and surrounding towns with hundreds saved. A second report from Fort de France notes St Vincent’s Soufrière eruption with 600 deaths and ash clouds darkening Barbados.
May 6 Mount Pelée erupts sending a lava stream up to 20 feet high and half a mile wide. It rushes down the dry bed toward the sea, forcing the sea to recede 300 feet along the coast while electric flashes illuminate the mountain. A Hak boat attempted to reach shore with mail but turned back.
A large audience gathered in Memorial Chapel last Thursday evening to hear Mars Julia Bechtels graduating gpital. The program featured Schubert, Tschaikowsky, Nevin, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Grieg, Couchois, and Remnhald pieces. Bechtel was assisted by George Allen Brewer on bass and Prof Schwartz on violin. The program highlighted Bechtel’s talent and training with a varied, rare recital.

Notice declares six new rural routes from Wooster starting July 1 with route details for No 1 through No 8. Carriers begin 6:30 am, return by 6:30 pm, $600 yearly, mail delivery duties include stamps, money orders, and receipts. Patrons must supply steel boxes for mail collection and delivery.
At a Wooster Board of Health meeting on Monday afternoon the new standing committees were appointed for the year. Finance includes Daniel Funck H. Billman and Harvey Swartz. Nuisance committee comprises S. H. Bilman Chas Barrett and A F Bachheit. Contagious Diseases with Dr H J Stoll Daniel Funck and A F Buochheit. Food committee lists Charles F Barrett Harvey Swartz and Dr H J Stoll. Mrs Margaret McLane formerly of Orrville died in Cleveland last week at age 76.
