Walter Warren Warren: A Wooster High School Alum Dies

Walter Warren 33 son of Dr and Mrs R N Warren of North Street Wooster died March 21 at Huron Street Hospital Cleveland after tuberculosis. He graduated Wooster High School in 1890, studied at the University and Cleveland Law School, spent a year in Arizona and California recovering, and underwent a fatal operation March 5. Funeral Monday at the Warren home with Rev Deeds officiating. pallbearers from Phi Gamma Delta included John McGregor Allan Clark Oscar Foss Walter McClure George Brewer. Interment Wooster cemetery.

Martin Shakely of Congress district files a slander suit against B. F. Stratton for $2000 alleging Stratton accused him of hay theft and that two farm owners refused to rent to him because of the accusation harming his reputation.

Station Board of Control Visits Experiment Station

The Experiment Station Board of Central visited the station last Saturday and expressed satisfaction with conditions. All current department heads were reappointed except the position to be vacant April 1 due to the resignation of Professor Webster.

Shooting Incident Near Warwick and Doylestown

Jain Kiley of near Warwick was shot by Elias Brightman a cement peddler from Mayne county near Doylestown. Brightman fired twice at John Riley on the A and GC track in Wayne county the second shot struck Riley in the right breast and he was taken to Warwick then to Doylestown. Brightman bound over to the grand jury but confined in county jail after unable to post 1000 bond. Warwick residents expressed fear and threats followed the event.

Road conditions improve as teams, depots, and ventures move forward

March notes drying roads ahead of spring travel. Frank Jontz’s large gray team caused a runaway at Wayne depot Friday. no injuries, horses captured at stock pen. Leasiter house to be moved this week. Easter services at ME church moved to Saturday. missionary collection urged. Local updates include school plans starting March 31 with 60 scholars, several residents back from illness, sewings held by area women, and railroad progress toward Chippewa Lake with a new Cleveland Medina schedule and 55 cent fare.

Ohio lawmakers inspect Experiment Station and visit Massillon

A 35 member finance committee delegation from the Ohio legislature toured the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station in Wooster at noon Friday. Director C K Thorne described ongoing projects needing further appropriations to support feeding stock work disease research and other branches before traveling by special car to Massillon to view the state hospital for the insane.

Pleasant Ume Community Update Amid Local Moves and Fire Loss

The Pleasant Ume notes a span of family and farm activity with Eliza Helman seriously ill at Uarvay Linsey’s home. Ted Meicker returns from Cleveland to aid his father on the farm this summer. Clyde Gault, Wilbert Green and others come home from Ada and Wooster schools for the season. A fire at George Wertenberger’s sugar camp destroyed camp buildings, wood, sap, and syrup storage. George Breniger plans to move into the Gault house. Charley Chippinger relocates east of town. Silvia Brown returns from Wooster with plans to travel again. Joan Shank and Maggie Ginter also move or travel. Visitors from Beaver Falls, Pa. and other old friends are noted. The M E church Sunday School will host an Easter entertainment. Prohibition Alliance Holds Busy Plaza Two Meeting

The prohibition alliance of Plaza Two met Friday night at Jefferson schoolhouse with a full main room. Recitations readings and an essay by Mr John Hough pleased the audience while music by J Nough and sister drew praise. An ex tempore talk by D Bitt ner and W W Wallace preceded adjournment to the third Friday in April.
