Fire destroys Seiberling Miller Works at Doylestown
A March fire consumed the Empire Machine Works at Doylestown owned by Seiberling Miller & Co. The plant was totally burned, leaving only the office. Machinery and stock were lost, with about 100 workers affected. The loan about 100000 dollars, insured for 9000. Captain Benj B Lake former city resident died suddenly of heart disease in Chicago on Friday March 15. He served as a Civil War captain in McLaughlin's squadron and was an aide on General Garfield's staff. He leaves four children and was buried after fanfare at his brother-in-law's home. He had lived in North Carolina before moving to Chicago to be with his daughter Ella Lake.
