Regulation of trans oceanic flights urged after 1927 toll
The piece argues that 1927 trans oceanic attempts killed or vanished 23 and only 24 reached safely. It notes 12 attempts across the Atlantic and Caribbean with five crossings by 10 people, only Lindbergh Brock and Sehlee succeeding as planned. Pacific flights were deadlier, including the Dole flight with 10 lives. President Coolidge opposes regulation, fearing stifling aviation progress, while the author recommends seaplanes for commercial viability and calls for regulation mandating afloat-capable craft for ocean flights.
