Open season on pheasants pushed by Black Hawk sportsmen

Black Hawk county sportsmen and farmers push petitions for an open pheasant season in the county aiming to join a nine day period statewide. Local dealer Merrill Coburn notes farmer calls and says he opposes hens but supports hunting cock pheasants with a three to four day season and a three bird daily limit. Some Orange township farmers oppose hunting, while others intend to hunt pheasants for themselves. Izaak Walton league officials distance themselves from the proposed bag limit, favoring a limited open season of three cock pheasants per day over several days.
