Des Moines Oct 28 Gov W L Harding announced a long list of election commissioners to visit Iowa soldiers in military camps to arrange ballots pollbooks and instructions for voting on election day. The commissioners, bipartisan, will stay on site until ballots are counted and returned to the secretary of state.
Mt Auburn notices report Catherine Mae Christopher died October 18, 1917, at home of Dr and Mrs W F Christopher. Funeral at home October 23 led by Rev A R Coover with interment in Mt Auburn cemetery. Also noted is the death of Earl James Geiger of Benton county born August 28 1908, who died last Saturday after influenza and pneumonia. He leaves a widow and four children, plus his mother Mercy Geiger and multiple siblings. General services were led by Rev J W Scherdelmyyer at the Christian church and burial followed at Bear Creek cemetery.
A 13 year old Burlington girl Mildred Shauenberg disappeared after a quarrel with her brother Ralph. She left a note expressing her intent to take her own life to avoid funeral expenses. She was found exhausted on the Skunk river bridge and recovering at home.

Des Moines with Vic tor Grinwood of Washington DC from the child welfare bureau surveys Iowa enforcement of child labor laws. The state allows special permits for youths ages 14 to 16 in certain jobs. For the year ending July 1, 1918 about 1600 more permits were issued than the prior year.
In Cherokee Iowa on October 23 the casket believed to contain Joseph Lewis son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Lewis of near Le Mars was opened and found to hold a negro. Telegraphing Camp Dodge revealed the body was bound for Tennessee for burial. The error arose from two men with the same name. The remains were reshipped immediately.
Bellevue Nebraska October 23 six months ago William McAndrews of Lost Nation learned his wife had died Last week his son William died at Camp Pike Arkansas and was shipped home Then he learned another son Wrantis died in Syracuse New York and the body was sent home Upon opening the casket the father thought the body resembled his son and the remains were buried Beside the first son later he received word from Syracuse that Francia McAndrews had been granted a furlough and would return home The dead soldier shipped to Lost Nation was Frank McAndrew while the son’s name is Francia McAndrews The home of the dead man has not been found
