Nightingale honored in centenary tribute by nurses in Waterloo
Informal ceremony marks the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale born in 1820. Nurses raised 40 dollars for a Florence Nightingale School for Nurses memorial in Bordeaux to aid American nurses who died in war. The fund supports a home for nurses and teaching laboratories. Committees led by Miss Minnie Harrison among others oversaw the effort. Nightingale organized hospital service in the Crimean War and advised Civil War and French medical efforts.
