Trade Expansion Conference Aims at Midwest Outreach

Des Moines hosts a three state conference on March 16 to discuss extending trade with foreign markets. Governors Carey Nebraska McKeivie and Harding Iowa attend with Illinois Chicago speakers outlining waterway transport and Mississippi Valley production. Waterloo plans to send the largest delegation from zone 7, led by J. W. Gamble of Omaha.

800 Pound Sow Lost From Boxcar In Transit

A 800 pound sow disappeared from a Great Western freight boxcar between Dumont and Hampton Iowa. The crate door was broken and the sow vanished while other piglets remained secure. Owner Guy Franch of Faulkner bought the pig at a Dumont sale and had it crated for transport. Officials of the Great Western line are to make good the loss.

District Court Opens at Manchester with New Grand Jurors

Manchester March term opens as Judge HW B Holes orders more grand jurors after one moved to Clayton county and another is excused. Today the grand jury will be chosen from new and existing members. A community dance at the armory on March 17 and a dinner for Thursday Afternoon club members are planned amid union Easter services. Local roads are improving but long drives remain limited.

Plan to Build Hospital Endowment in Webster City

A unique plan aims to endow a new $100,000 hospital addition at Webster City without local cost. A $130,000 fund will be raised by subscription and invested in real estate mortgages at 7 percent. A $100,000 5 percent bond will be issued for charitable purposes, tax exempt. Two 20-year life policies of $60,000 each on Dr. G. T. McCaulif and Dr. W. W. Wyatt will be funded from interest after bond interest.

Hospital expansion plan aims to cancel bonds and reinvest

The plan would cancel bonds running 29 years and keep the original $130,000 fund intact. Life policies may be taken out every 20 years to cover future additions, repairs, and equipment. The chamber of commerce is reviewing legality with a lawyers' committee and awaits its report.
