Attorneys Argue Wife Divorces Retrial Over stipulation
In district court Judge G W Wood heard a motion for a new trial in the divorce between Walter B Caward and Matilda Caward. Matilda contends she signed the stipulation under stress and threats, which awarded $30 000 but gave custody of their two year old daughter Mary Jean to the grandmother A H Caward. Swisher for Matilda argued she faced surveillance and exposure if a trial occurred and that her client lost weight while pressured into the stipulation. Caward’s counsel Tobin countered with his own impassioned plea, alleging serious pressure and consequences behind the contested agreement.
