Walnut timber goes into gun stocks in Decorah Iowa
William Strand, administrator for the Haugen estates, reported that a government officer purchased black walnut logs on a Decorah farm. Two carloads were shipped, with one tree yielding about 2,000 feet of timber and selling for over 200 dollars. The shipment totaled 4654 dollars, and the officer called it the state’s largest black walnut. Strand is locating more trees in the county, including on Canoe creek.
