Des Moines, Jan. 14. The Iowa county supervisors in cooperation with the state highway commission have a cooperative buying plan for bridge and highway materials for the coming year. An executive committee ad says bids for 14,000,000 feet of rough bridge timber and 480,090 thousand board feet of piling, 76,001 barrels of cement, and 4,260,000 pounds of reinforcing steel will be opened Sep 25 at 10 a.m. Contracting firms will be paid by each county board on low bid for the total supply.

Explosion in Sheldon Kills Man Injures Residents
A gas explosion and fire in Sheldon Iowa killed Halsey Schildgen about 27, a year married, seriously injured Miss Nelile Jones and slightly injured John Ruckel and Hugh Glenna. Schildgen was installing gas in the Jones home, the oldest dwelling there, when he was overcome. Neighbors rushed to help, the basement exploded wrecking the house.
