Young Farmer Claude Mason Killed in Accident Near Town
Claude C. Mason, 26, died after severe injuries from a farm accident at the Mason homestead northwest of Town Falls. He was found crushed and believed to have been caught between a rack wagon and a crib as a team started. Survived by his parents C. K. Mason, three brothers, two sisters, wife Marvell Gibson Mason, and two children. Born October 27, 1887, he was a former Ames agriculture student and Baptist church member.

Des Moines January 9 seed men pay three to six dollars a bushel for weed corn and face strict enforcement of seed law. Woden, Jan. 9. While waiting to be sold at the Red Cross auction here recently, two common hens laid an egg. The auctioneer offered the egg and it sold for $64 to eager bidders. The Red Cross total from the sale reached $900, and a later dinner added about $110.

Mrs. Melvina Remick, 80, was found frozen on her back porch in Waverly after a morning alone. She suffered dizzy spells and was thought to be overcome while sweeping. Coroner's verdict: death by freezing. Born in North Anson, Missouri in 1837 she moved to Waverly in 1869 with her husband who died in 1893.
