Iowa Mason Levi Shepherd Celebrates Centenary Milestone
Levi J. Shepherd Sr. celebrates his one hundredth birthday in Fatty, Iowa, becoming possibly the oldest Mason in the area. Born January 3, 1818 near Pittsburgh Virginia, he later moved to Illinois and then Hardin County. A seafaring fisherman by early life, he served as Montgomery County sheriff for six years and aided Civil War veterans in Vicksburg. He is survived by his son and grandson who are also Masons, marking three generations in the craft.
