Fear Death for Draft Fighers Slackers Face Court Martial
Eight St Paul Socialists from the 351st Infantry are alleged to refuse uniforms at Camp Dodge and face possible death penalty notes, though leaders dismiss the claim. They pleaded guilty to draft registration evasion and received eight months in Ramsey County Jail. Relatives write to Washington urging clemency, citing Otton Wangering’s 15 year Leavenworth sentence as a warning. Mrs Broms says rights of citizens are violated while protests accompany the transfer to Fort Snelling.
