Sioux City reports reveal ongoing efforts to prove fraud in the November election. Attorneys and Congressman Tom Steele led hearings focusing on the Six City precinct. Initial recounts showed 70 votes for a Republican and 3 for a sheriff, with miscounts suggesting Democratic gains. A subsequent recount indicated 106 votes counted for the Republican.
Cromwell February 6. Many of the injured in Friday night's Burlington wreck at Cromwell were allowed to go home yesterday. The only person whose recovery was considered doubtful is J H Robinson of Keokuk. The condition of D T Hagwell, chief clerk to Superintendent Ustick of the SNE, is slightly improved through a restraining treatment.
Gov Harding unveils eight new personal staff members and reappoints several adjutant generals and aides. The list names Clayton Branson, George Logan, Charles Fox, Milo Ward, Henry Lange, Louis Lasher, and others from Des Moines Clinton Muscatine and nearby towns. The adjutant general retains duties as staff custodian while the state guards prepare for border duty and fort Des Moines mustering out.
Des Moines Feb. Frauds totaling millions in land deals would be curbed by a bill from Senator B J Gibson of Corning. The proposal seeks criminal penalties for selling land without title, aligning Iowa with Ohio law. Currently only civil actions apply, allowing dishonest dealers to escape. The bill targets outsiders selling lands without ownership, aiming to shield Iowa buyers from fraud.

Des Moines February 6 Iowa suffragists push resubmission of the suffrage amendment before a joint constitutional amendment committee session of both houses. Anna B Lawther leads a statewide delegation with representatives from every county. Banners and yellow sashes will mark the event. The hearing does not imply an immediate vote. approval by the current and next legislatures is needed before a 192? election.
Des Moines February 6. The home rule bill backed by the Town League of Municipalities and of importance to every city in the state was introduced in the house Monday by Representative Kimberly of Davenport, a leader in the Speaker Pitt faction. The bill grants to city councils authority to exercise all powers of local self government with restraints as now established by law.

Davenport plans disruption as five barber shops open Sunday face raids. Thirteen barbers arrested for violating the Sunday closing law. The union barbers back the prosecution and threaten a citywide Sunday shutdown of all shops.

Des Moines February 6. KF S Shaw auditor of state urges establishing county assessor and unifying county funds under a budget system. The 1913-15 county accounting report notes 697,321 dollars due counties, 171,059 recovered, and lists reforms including rewritten revenue laws, salary basing, and tighter tax and pension controls.
Des Moines report indicates the governor's nomination of F. F. Jones of Villisca to the state board of education will lapse under the 30 day confirmation rule. If no executive session or vote occurs by Feb 5, the appointment is automatically killed and a new nominee will be sent. The steering committee cites a 34 vote requirement for confirmation.
The Jones nomination may not reach an executive session without a clear majority. A special committee considering the case reportedly divided on its recommendation, delaying action. Opposition centers on notoriety from a Red Oak slander case in which Jones sued Detective Wilkerson for 60,000 unsettled amid Villisca murders in 1942.
Sheldon Feb 6 A Omaha snowplow broke while pushing a nine foot drift one mile north of town throwing the heat engine off the track nine feet. The head engine crew left it at Sheldon while others from St James continued with the remaining engines. No passenger trains arrived Sunday or Monday on the Illinois Central Milwaukee or Omaha. W.O. At the Ames winter short course 400 junior boys and girls ran the program while older residents attended a mass meeting. Winners included Ruth McGill Council Bluffs in bread baking, Esther Meintz Dixon in garment making, and various county and local youths in stock, corn, and sheep judging. Vivian Edwards Waterloo was elected president of the State Boys and Girls Club association.
