Fire in Dubuque destroyed the Stilsen Manufacturing building at Thirteenth and Iowa streets. Railroad Men Must Bring Suit in Home Courts

Marshalltown, Feb 5. Judge Willett issued a temporary injunction restraining Arthur M Thornton, a Minneapolis St Louis railroad fireman, from suing in Minnesota. Thornton injured July 14, 1916 seeks 15000 in St Paul for damages. The order bars filing in Minnesota or any state other than Iowa, aiming to keep the case local.

Legislature Notes Opens Five Bills in One Session

Des Moines February 5 Senator Kim Dall of Pottawattamie county introduced five bills Saturday including a measure banning spray firearms and knives in store windows. The wets clashed with drys over funding for law enforcement as Larson bill for 25000 dollars for the attorney general’s office faced indefinite postponement despite a minority report. County school superintendent election becomes a special order for February 26 while the House and Senate tallies show 339 and 186 bills introduced respectively.

British Ship Sunk Claimed Dead and Drowned Crew

Ten crew members of a British steamer were listed as drowned after earlier reports of sinking. The captain and two sailors were landed. A severe storm halted rail and streetcar service across the region. Morning trains from the east were delayed at Calmar and Parkersburg.
