Barbed Words Fly In Waterloo Court Battle
A heated clash between County Attorney W A Cook and attorney J C Murtagh erupted in municipal court over the Garton case. Garton alias John Stark faces cheating by false pretenses charges with bond set at 1000 dollars as arguments over preliminary hearing drew in Mrs Garton’s testimony about a fraudulent telephone directory scheme. Judge Gwynne quieted personal remarks while the bond and preliminary hearing were discussed and rescheduled.
