State agents and Muscatine officials raided multiple city locations selling near beer and imitation intoxicants. Officers confiscated assorted liquids, home brew, and punch boards while detaining no arrests. raids continued as agents gathered evidence for testing.
Des Moines reports C M Lodge a Concordia Kansas hotel proprietor, burned to death in a fire at Hotel Fort Nes on the seventh floor. Firemen found him across the bathroom threshold with clothing burned off as flames swept the room. He died en route to Samaritan hospital. Officials suspect smoking in bed sparked the blaze and Lodge may have tried to extinguish the fire in the tub before escaping via the door to the hallway.
