Firebug Bricker Adjudged Insane in Des Moines Area
Nes Moines Aug 12 Following investigations by the state fire marshal Bricker of Webster county was Friday adjudged insane by the commissioners of insanity at Fort Des Moines and was taken to the State hospital at Cherokee. Bricker, 40, lived as a wild man along the Des Moines river between Dayton and Stratford for years terrorizing locals. He never worked and sustained himself through thefts, shootings, and fires blamed on him. Earlier arson charges traced to him led to conviction in Webster City and a reversed supreme court ruling. The latest fire near Stratford on July 20 provided decisive evidence of his culpability and mental condition. He is now committed to the State hospital.

Convalescents at Camp Dodge Enjoy Joy Ride Parade
About 200 convalescent soldiers from Camp Dodge base hospital rode in 60 Des Moines cars on a Saturday afternoon joy jaunt. Medical officers and nurses assisted by War Camp community service members loaded the men, many recovering from operations or illness, into vehicles for a celebratory outing that offered rare respite from hospital routine.

Private Frenzel Wounded in Action. Vaughan Comrade Also Dead
Private Frenzel, a longtime chum of Corp. Gordon Vaughan, was wounded July 26 the same day Vaughan died. Frenzel, 21, of 12 Milllon avenue west, is in serious condition. He joined Company G in Waterloo April 27, 1917, served 15 months, and was drafted to the Rainbow division’s 168th Infantry. He previously worked for the Waterloo Courier and at Town Dairy. His parents, Mr and Mrs Adam Frenzel, have been advised by the War Department with no further details.
