Fire alarms report small Waterloo incidents
Waterloo fire department responded to several calls with minimal damage. An early call at 11 34 a m concerned a burning motor in a basement at 800 Oneida Street, extinguished before damage. At 8 10 p m firefighters responded to a Ford fire at 1121 Franklin Street caused by backfiring, causing only smoke and minor damage. A broken water pipe in the basement of 213 Randolph Street was repaired later by Capt. Lou Armstrong and Ray Garra brant in the chief’s car.

Seventeen Meat Cars Derail Near Dyersville Illinois Central
Seventeen meat cars derailed one and a half miles west of Dyersville on the Illinois Central railroad at 4 15 am Sunday blocking the Waterloo to Dubuque line for nine hours. A broken rail caused the accident but no car was badly damaged as the train moved slowly. Wrecker crews from Waterloo shops arrived at 10 am and three hours later the line reopened. Detours sent Illinois Central trains via Waterloo and Dubuque over Chicago Great Western. The cars carried meat from South Omaha packing plants en route to Chicago.
