Born October 15, 1848 in Kidtropshire, Scotland, he immigrated to Canada, later moved to Tama County, Iowa, then Cedar Falls before settling in Waterloo seventeen years ago. He married Christina Gueban in 1869 in Blandford, Ontario. she died in February 1918 in St. Louis. Survived by three children including Mrs. Cooke, Mrs. A. B. Gnagy of Waterloo, Andrew W. Hoy of Palo Alto and George D. Hoy of Pasadena. Body at O'Keefe & Towne funeral home.
