Albert McCann of Peoria rode freight to reach his ailing mother in Independence. In Davenport he was forced from a pilot onto Main Street, then pushed to the viaduct edge where a train’s pass brushed him, tumbling him eight feet to the street. He suffered a sprained ankle and bruised shoulder but planned more travel.
