Lawson Opens His Defense in Ludlow Murder Trial
Trinidad Colo April 28 John R Lawson who faces a murder charge in Nimmo's death will present a defense arguing deputies started the Oct 25 1913 battle that killed Nimmo and that Lawson stayed in the tent colony to preserve peace Hawkins chief counsel stated the clash began when deputies rode from Ludlow toward the railroad to meet a train and that Lawson was not in the Colorado and Southeastern railway cut nor outside the tent colony except to escort Anna Cameron. He asserted Lawson urged miners to avoid violence and that arms were bought to defend Ludlow. Lawson helped disperse workers while shots were fired outside the colony.
