County Agent Reports Seed Potatoes and Fairs Efforts

County agent Steele reports October work on seed potato inspection grading and disease control. About 70 percent of fields pass certification, yielding over 5000 bushels, with 15 percent good seed and 15 percent for eating. Fairs planned at Stony Fork Cove Creek Elk Windy Gap aim to boost community work and local economy. The kraut factory production reaches eighty tons, with a goal of 690 tons, improving cabbage markets and prices for Watauga County farmers both inside and outside the association.

Baptist Church Social Draws Students and Members

The Training School students enjoyed a social at the Baptist Church Monday night. The Senior B Y P U elected new officers with Mr Dula named president. A revival begins next Monday at 7 30 pm led by Rev W R Bradshaw. pastor to preach at Blowing Rock next Sunday.

Worth While Club Elects Officers and Notes Flower Study

The Worth While Club met September 21 with W. G. Hartzog present. Members discussed wild flowers including golden red varieties and ironweed. Officers were elected: L. L. Bingham president, J. M. Moretz vice president, J. T. C. Wright secretary. Mrs. Henson won a wild flower contest prize.

Stony Fork Happenings Show Community Improvements

A Stony Fork church grounds cleanup enhanced the cemetery and yard with weed removal and new steps. Residents plan further work and lawn seeding while trees were trimmed and a tree removed. Rev Jim Greene led a graveside service for Mrs Lindy Greene with nearly 200 attendees at Grave Hill cemetery.

Reunion Honors Eight Veterans in North Carolina

The obituaries committee notes eight members answering roll call this year and lists Go. E, 37th Reg. Simon Shull. Calvin Davis. William Blair. C. J. Cottrell. J. J. Henson. Solomon Young. and William Justice. They valued service to country and state, praising their wartime devotion and peacetime efforts in Watauga County.

Fire devastates Blowing Rock businesses. limited insurance

A large fire destroying the Lentz store, H. C. Hayes, Youngs Cafe and the Episcopal reading room leaves Blowing Rock with losses estimated between fifty thousand and a hundred thousand dollars. Only Lentz and Hayes stores show insurance guarding most stock. post office records survive. Town plans rapid rebuilding.

Lovill and Graybeal Married in Knoxville September 8

Our trusted sources confirm the marriage of William R. Lovill of Western North Carolina and Lucy Graybeal of Johnson City Tennessee in Knoxville on September 8. The bride, daughter of W. B. Greene family visits North Wilkesboro and planning meeting

Mr and Mrs L C Greene and Ruth spent a few days in North Wilkesboro. A community meeting will be held at the school next Saturday to plan the Community fair set for October 20. All committee members and as many school patrons as possible are urged to attend to discuss school plans.

Qualls Hardware Changes Hands in Lincolnton

The Qualls hardware stock was sold to Ed Qualls and A F Dixon of Lincolnton. The store remains in the same building. Mr J L Qualls Sr plans to focus on the Commercial Hotel with extensive changes planned for the property.

Boone Public and Appalachian Training School Teachers Honored

A reception for Boone Public School and Appalachian Training School teachers was hosted by the Parent Teachers Association at the Hartzog home on Tuesday evening the 25th. The event featured games and refreshments, boosting morale as the Training School advances with 275 students and a 70 in the Normal department. The new administration building progresses and gym walls rise, while teachers hold weekly faculty meetings to discuss teaching. Mrs J G Pulliam and daughter Mrs E P Marshall and child return to Washington DC after visits, with Mrs Marshall planning to join her husband in California.
