Elections Board notes unprecedented Democratic majorities in North Carolina
Complete returns from the November 8 general election show Democratic candidates sweeping state offices with large margins. Roosevelt leads with 498,006 to Hoover's 208,334, Ehringhaus's governor win by about 285,000, and Reynolds's Senate margins around 261,000. Congressional races also favor Democrats across all eleven districts with double digit to high double digit margins. The Board will certify results December 6 with Reynolds’s short-term election set for certification next week.

Blowing Rock Students Get Hot Lunches In Community Drive
A state nurse study revealed underweight children at Blowing Rock School. Local Community Club and patrons organized a hot lunch program funded by donated foods and kitchen equipment from Mrs. David Milton of New York City. By November 15 the kitchen was ready and soups and cocoa are served to over a hundred children riding buses or carrying lunches.

Funeral services for George Washington Hayes, longtime Boone resident and last surviving member of his immediate family, were held Monday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rev. E C Hodges officiated, with interment at Hines Cemetery. Hayes died Sunday after a brief illness. he was a farmer and fruit expert born in Boone, son of Ransom Hayes, a prominent early landowner.
