Whiskey Found in Wrecked Automobile
An automobile believed driven by Hal Shore and Frank Lentz was found wrecked in the Alo section Monday and a half gallon of whiskey and a pistol were turned in at the Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Farthing investigated the scene but the car and its owners were gone. One occupant possibly suffered serious windshield injuries.

Vance to Spend Summer in Blowing Rock Tennessee pastor to summer at Rock
Dr James I Vance of Rutherford Tennessee will return about July 11 to Blowing Rock to spend the rest of the summer with Mrs Vance and the children. Arrest Men on Serious Charge in Beech Mountain
Frank Ward and Roby Oliver of Beech Mountain were arrested by Sheriff Luther Farthing on firing shots into Deputy Edmis ton Misten’s home while his family slept. Bloodhounds traced a deserted distillery to manufacturing whisky. Ward confessed to firing and implicated Oliver. both are jailed in default of bond.

Lum Kirby Dies in Auto Wreck Near Elizabethton
Lum Kirby a longtime Doe River Valley resident and former Mabel North Carolina native died in an Elizabethon Tennessee hospital after a car crash on the Johnson City Elizabethton pike. He never regained consciousness and was survived by a widow and three children along with several brothers and sisters including Arthur Filmore and Oscar Kirby of Mabel and Mrs Marvin Thomas of Mabel. Funeral services were held near Doe Tennessee with relatives from Watauga in attendance.
