Dynamite Found At Bonus Army Camp In Washington
Police and veterans units closed in on the Anacostia flats receiving camp after a small quantity of dynamite fuse and caps was uncovered in bed ticking. Two and a half sticks of dynamite and six caps were found with concern over possible communist ties. Police and veterans gave conflicting accounts on destruction. About 1,000 to 2,000 veterans were lodging in the city while some 12,033 were registered at encampments Monday.

Shots Fired At Deputy Home Moonshine Distillery Found
Deputy Sheriff Fred Edmisten woke at 4 a m to musketry and window crashes. Bloodhounds traced a trail to a hidden forty gallon moonshine still near Beech Mountain. Shots from a nearby peak signaled the escape of the operators as whiskey was seized. Edmisten had recently jailers in poultry theft cases.

Fire destroys new Gross home near Boone
The residence of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Gross, about one mile west of Boone on Highway 60, burned to the ground at midnight. The eight room frame structure was practically new and had no known insurance. Only a small trunk was saved and origin of the blaze is undetermined.
