Mrs. Sallie Reeves Dies in Blowing Rock After Illness
Sallie Reeves widow of Dr. Reeves died at her Blowing Rock home last Thursday after months of illness. She underwent an operation in Statesville and complications led to her death. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock with ministers J. H. Burke and Sexton Buchanan and burial in Boone Cemetery. Surviving: two daughters Lena Reeves and Mrs. Davis of Richmond Virginia, sister Mrs. J S Williams of Blowing Rock, and brother J D Councill of Boone.

Sheriff’s Office Seizes Moonshine Distillery in Raid
Sheriff Farthing and Deputy Hagaman raided a lower Stony Fork site last Friday and seized a fifty gallon oil barrel twenty bushels of beer and other equipment used for moonshine. The improvised distillery had been in recent operation and the furnace was hot when officers arrived. No operator identity was learned.

Beaverdam Man Badly Hurt In Seven Foot Fall From Truck
Councill Ward 41 of Beaverdam sustained severe skull fracture facial injuries and heavy blood loss after being thrown from a loaded vegetable truck eight feet onto a road near Boone. He received first aid in Sugar Grove and later moved to Winston-Salem for specialist care. his condition improved toward recovery. Ward is brother of Lionel Ward of Boone and a well known county resident.

John Jenkins of Ashe County was sentenced by Judge Johnson J. Hayes in Wilkesboro Federal Court to a total of twelve years in Atlanta or designated location. He received five years for two postal fraud counts and two more on another postal charge, with the five-year terms running concurrently for a total of seven years. He is also sought by North Carolina authorities on various theft charges.
