Reunion of Skull Mast Taylor Baird Horton Families
A reunion of the Skull, Mast, Taylor, Baird and Horton families will be held on Saturday August 20 at Valle Crucis North Carolina. Relatives from Watauga and elsewhere are invited and asked to bring baskets of food. Speeches music and entertainment are planned. Over 300 family members live in Watauga with others in Kansas and Missouri. More details will appear in The Democrat next week.

Ernest Johnson Dead at 33 in Saxon Community
Ernest Johnson aged 33 died suddenly at his Saxon home on Monday. Interment followed in a community cemetery at four o clock Tuesday. Surviving are two brothers and two sisters. He was the son of the late Andy Johnson and a World War veteran who had tuberculosis after his discharge.

In Watauga County most schools opened this week after a summer term, with attendance reaching record levels as teachers prepared after training at Boone Teachers College. Boone Blowing Rock Bethel Cove Creek schools plan September start for 1700+ students, about 45 percent of county pupils. Man Killed in Beech Mountain Gun Battle
Miles Love 40 of Beech Creek was shot and killed early Thursday near the Avery County line by Nathan and Daniel Presnell his father in law and brother in law. The Presnells were acquitted after a self defense plea and testimony. Love had recently visited his estranged wife and had a past record including a killing of a child and a criminal assault charge. Funeral services were held in Avery County Friday afternoon.
